Elo TouchSystems Extends Its Family of Gaming Touchmonitors

New Additions Include 17" and 19" True Flat Screen CRT Monitors

Fremont, California—September 17, 2002—Elo TouchSystems, Inc., the global leader in touch technology and a unit of Tyco Electronics, today announces that it has extended its family of open-frame CRT and LCD gaming monitors to 14 models, ranging from 12.1" through 19". Recent additions include 17" and 19" true flat CRT monitors and a new 17" LCD wide panel monitor (16 x 9 aspect ratio). Elo has also upgraded its popular 1549L 15" LCD, increasing the viewing angle to 160° x 160° while retaining the same exterior physical dimensions. Elo's CRT gaming touchmonitors are available with the company's breakthrough iTouch "touch-on-tube" surface-wave touch technology. The company's LCD gaming monitors are available with IntelliTouch or SecureTouch surface-wave touch technologies. All of the company's gaming monitors feature a unique injection-molded minibezel and watertight seal. Elo's gaming monitors will be shown in booth #1167 at G2E 2002 Global Gaming Expo, Las Vegas, Nevada, from September 17 to 19.

Quality and Reliability at a Cost-Effective Price Point

"The extended family of gaming monitors not only retains Elo's proven quality and reliability," says Mike Sigona, Elo's worldwide gaming market manager, "but manages to do so at an extremely cost-effective and competitive price point. We've worked hard at Elo and found a way to deliver quality and economy in the same bundle. I believe that our customers will be very pleased with our new gaming monitors."

Integrated Minibezel and Watertight Seal

"We now have a large family of ten products with small footprints, consistent electronics, mechanical construction and features across all sizes," says Seosamh McNally, Elo's gaming product manager. "All of the CRTs have the same form factors, and both the CRT and LCD monitors offer multilingual remote On-Screen Display (OSD) and worldwide agency approvals and power. And all of Elo's gaming monitors feature our unique, field-replaceable, integrated minibezel." The minibezel forms a watertight faceplate seal to keep spilled drinks away from the electronics and stays in place even when the game cover is open. The seal is about 0.5 mm thick—thinner than a coin—and appears solid to players.

1988C 19" CRT Gaming MonitorTrue Flat CRT Monitors

Elo's new Entuitive 1788C and 1988C 17" and 19" CRT gaming monitors provide a true flat surface—unlike Full Square Tube (FST) monitors, which are still slightly curved—that simplifies installation of the monitor into cabinets using a flat front. Elo's true flat monitors provide the same flat screen image as an LCD monitor, but at the lower cost-point of a CRT monitor. "The true flat monitors take particular advantage of Elo's iTouch 'touch-on-tube' technology," says Sigona. iTouch, which is an option for all of Elo's CRT gaming monitors, provides significantly enhanced on-screen image, graphics, color quality, brightness and clarity by eliminating the traditional glass touchscreen overlay and placing the touch sensors on the CRT faceplate itself. Monitors equipped with iTouch can yield up to 20 percent greater brightness and up to 80 percent less reflection than those with an overlay. "For customers using a true flat CRT, iTouch is a far superior solution to an overlay because even a true flat tube generates some parallax in the corners, which can be exaggerated by the overlay and its associated air gap," Sigona explains. "Using iTouch, however, minimizes this parallax."

1757L 17" LCD Gaming Monitor with Wide XGA PanelWider Angle, Modular Design

Elo's new Entuitive 1757L 17" LCD gaming monitor with wide XGA panel (1280 x 768) offers a 16 x 9 aspect ratio and landscape format. The monitor has been designed for wide-screen viewing applications, for which developers want to retain the same aspect ratio across the whole screen. Elo's Entuitive 1549L 15" LCD gaming monitor has been enhanced with a wider panel—offering a 160° x 160° viewing angle to attract more players—but still retains the same outside dimensions. "All of Elo's LCD gaming monitors have a long-lasting product cycle," says McNally, "because the enclosure is controlled by Elo's specifications. So future panel improvements are possible without external changes." Elo's LCD gaming monitors include the superior picture quality of IntelliTouch surface-wave touch technology, the option of SecureTouch vandal-resistant surface-wave touch technology, and an optional USB controller. Serial is standard.

As with traditional gaming monitors, Elo's open-frame line of touch and non-touch CRT monitors uses electronics that are quickly field-replaceable. A common electronics design across all models and sizes and an access panel also make component-level repairs easier.
