Elo TouchSystems Announces Technology Breakthrough In Touch-Based Gaming SystemsNew iTouch "Touch-on-Tube" Surface Wave Technology Attracts Players and Improves Playability For Release September 14, 1999 Fremont, Calif. Elo's new iTouch "touch-on-tube" surface wave technology provides a brighter and more precise, durable and reliable touchmonitor that attracts players and improves playability. iTouch will be shown in booth #478 at World Gaming Congress, Las Vegas, Nevada from September 14 to 16. "Elo's new iTouch 'touch-on-tube' surface wave technology is the clearest, most responsive touch technology for the gaming industry," says Gayle Schaeffer, Elo worldwide marketing manager. "Its ability to display attention-grabbing graphics with precise touch positioning makes it the ideal choice for video gaming and amusement machines." CRT faceplate becomes touch sensor iTouch represents a major breakthrough in touch technology
development that allows Elo to direct surface waves onto the
cathode ray tube (CRT) for touch sensing. The technology has Improved playabilityPlayer experience with iTouch is better because there are no "averaged double touches" during fast play and touch positioning is far more precise. Play is unaffected even if the player has sweaty fingers or is wearing gloves. Player interactivity can be improved because, in addition to the standard "X" and "Y" touch coordinates, iTouch includes a third, pressure-sensitive Z-axis. This Z-axis provides software developers an additional facet to gameplay such as 3-D button feedback. Players can continue to play on iTouch games even if the CRT is scratched or covered with dust or cigarette ash, or after cleaned-up liquid spillage, since the touch system's strong signal and digital remapping overcome contaminants to prevent "dead spots." Greater stability and more uptime"Elo designed the new iTouch technology specifically to enhance brightness and clarity, while retaining the no-drift, stable performance and proven reliability of surface wave technology," says Schaeffer. "Keeping games running with as little downtime as possible is essential to coin-machine operators and casinos, just as performance of the game itself is important. By placing the touchscreen directly on the CRT where it belongs, iTouch ensures that nothing stands between the player and the gameplay. What's more," adds Schaeffer, "the stability of the touch system means there is no recalibration with iTouch, so the machine is in service longer, with less maintenance and downtime." One-stop iTouch touchmonitor solutionElo is offering iTouch as a completely integrated touchmonitor. Using Elo as a one-stop touchmonitor solution allows OEMs to reduce purchasing and logistics costs, eliminate the cost of bonding overlay touchscreens, free up valuable manufacturing space, and save on training time, inventory and manpower. Elo will work with OEMs to optimize a touchmonitor design for a specific gaming machine, including upgrading to computer-grade monitors for higher-quality graphics if desired. # # # iTouch is a trademark of Elo TouchSystems, Inc. iMac and Apple are trademarks of Apple Computer.
